Tagetes patula
This heirloom cultivar was first recorded in 1791, to this day, the whimsical yellow and maroon-striped flower is a standout as a border flower. Variations do occur, appearing as streaks or polka dots of colour. French Marigolds repel harmful nematodes and whitefly, while also attracting hover flies (pollinators and aphid eaters) and parasitic wasps (enemy of whitefly and cabbage caterpillars). French Stripe marigolds are edible and medicinal. Open pollinated.
